How to read the chart. Blue fill is sold bed capacity; orange is shadow inventory, the remaining gap; purple is available bed capacity; and red is arrivals on the right-hand scale. CPI labels equal capacity ÷ sold capacity; lower values nearer 1.0x mean tighter utilisation. Stay labels are nights. Latest visible move: Aug 2026 arrivals +6.7%, sold capacity -1.0% and shadow inventory +2.2% month-on-month; CPI is 1.70x.

Operational and commercial interpretation

Aug 2026 demand shifted unevenly versus Jul 2026: arrivals +6.7% and sold bed nights -1.0%. Capacity moved +0.3%, taking utilisation from 59.7% to 58.9% and shadow inventory +2.2%. CPI changed +0.02x to 1.70x; average stay changed -1.1 nights to 6.4.

The higher CPI and wider gap indicate more unsold capacity and greater pricing pressure. Operators should protect high-value dates, activate targeted demand segments and review channel availability weekly instead of discounting every date. Airlines, resorts and destination managers should coordinate tactical demand stimulation with staffing and inventory plans.
